Seasonal dynamics of macrozoobenthos of an intermittent stream

Abstract:

Cílem této studie byl popis sezónní dynamiky vybraných skupin makrozoobentosu v podmínkách intermitentního toku. Studie byla založena na zpracování a determinaci patnácti vzorků makrozoobentosu na nejnižší možnou taxonomickou úroveň se zaměřením na skupiny Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera a Trichoptera. Výzkum byl situován na Gránický potok, malý přítok řeky Dyje na hranici Národní parku Podyjí v České republice. Během léta studovaná intermitentní část toku každoročně vysychá. V roce 2005 vyschl studovaný úsek dvakrát, první sucho trvalo 9 dní a druhé sucho 19 dní. Vzorky byly odebírány semikvantitativní multihabitatovou metodou PERLA, ve 2 – 4 týdenních intervalech od března do listopadu. V období vyschnutí úseku se odebíralo ze zbytkových tůní. V průběhu vysychání se jedinci stahovali do zbytkových tůní. U většiny skupin vodních bezobratlých přítomných v toku se po vyschnutí snížily abundance. Citlivost na tuto disturbanci prokázal zejména druh Gammarus fossarum a dva druhy jepic Baetis rhodani a Habrophlebia fusca. Po zaplavení vyschlého úseku došlo k postupné rekolonizaci, Po třech měsících dosáhly celkové abundance cca dvou třetin v porovnání s abundancemi před vyschnutím. Schopnost rychlé rekolonizace prokázala ve shodě s literárními údaji skupina Chironomidae, dále rod Nemoura sp. a druhy Baetis rhodani a Plectrocnemia conspersa. Rozdílnosti v reakcích jednotlivých skupin na vysychání a schopnost následné rekolonizace po znovuzaplavení toku byla dána především podmínkami v toku, vývojovými cykly a vlastnostmi jednotlivých druhů přítomných v toku.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to describe seasonal dynamics of chosen groups of water macroinvertebrates in conditions of en intermittent streams. Study was based on processing and determining fifteen samples into the lowest possible taxonomical level, focused in groups Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera. The study site was situated in the Gránický brook, a small tributary of the River Dyje on the border of the Podyjí National Park in Czech Republic. An intermittent studied part of a stream annually dries up during the summer. The studied section dried up twice in the year 2005, the first summer drought took nine days and the second nineteen days. The samples were taken by PERLA semiquantitative multihabitat method, in 2 - 4 weeks intervals from March to November. In the period of drought, samples were taken from residuals pools. In the course of drying-up, individuals were moving to residuals pools. The apparent decrease in abundance of the most groups of aquatic macrointervertebrates in the stream was shown after drought. Sensitivity to this disturbance was shown by species Gammarus fossarum and two species of group Ephemeroptera, Baetis rhodani and Habrophlebia fusca. Gradual course of recolonization shown up after reflooding of dry section. After three months, the total abundances attained to two-thirds in comparison with abundances, which had been before drought. The ability of fast recolonization rate, in accordance with the data from literature, was demonstrated by the group Chironomidae, next genus Nemoura sp. and species Baetis rhodani and Plectrocnemia conspersa. Differences between reactions of each group on drying-up and the ability of fast recolonization rate after reflooding of dry section were especially because of conditions in studied section of stream, life cycles and traits of each species, which lives in section of stream.
