Field Dependence in Relation to Aggressiveness in Criminal Population

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce bylo zachytit vztah mezi kognitivním stylem závislost/nezávislost na poli a agresivitou, a prohloubit tak poznatky o možnostech využití metody Embedded Figures Test Hermana A. Witkina. Dále jsme chtěli zjistit, zda existuje rozdíl v závislosti na poli mezi delikventní populací a populací nedelikventní. Výzkumný soubor sestával z osmdesáti mužů odsouzených k trestu odnětí svobody ve Věznici Kuřim. Experimentální skupinu tvořilo čtyřicet mužů, kteří byli odsouzeni za spáchání alespoň jednoho násilného trestného činu. Kontrolní skupinu tvořilo čtyřicet mužů, kteří byli odsouzeni za trestné činy nenásilné. Závislost na poli jsme zjišťovali metodou Embedded Figures Test a agresivitu metodami Hand Test a B-D-I. V teoretické části jsme se ve třech kapitolách zabývali tématy kriminální chování, agrese a závislost/nezávislost na poli. Ve výzkumné části jsme prezentovali náš výzkumný projekt a jeho výsledky. Mezi experimentální a kontrolní skupinou byl nalezen rozdíl v míře agresivity (členové experimentální skupiny se projevili jako agresivnější), ale nebyl nalezen rozdíl v míře závislosti na poli. Delikventní populace se dále ukázala jako závislejší na poli než populace nedelikventní. V kontrolní skupině byl vztah mezi agresivitou zjišťovanou metodou Hand Test a agresivitou zjišťovanou dotazníkem B-D-I těsnější než ve skupině experimentální. Dále byla zjištěna souvislost mezi závislostí na poli a agresivitou měřenou metodou Hand Test. Vztah mezi závislostí na poli a agresivitou měřenou dotazníkem B-D-I však nalezen nebyl.

Abstract:

The main purpose of the research was to identify a relation between cognitive style field dependence/independence and aggressiveness and to extend in this way the knowledge about the usability of Embedded Figures Test by Herman A. Witkin. We also wanted to find out if there is any difference in field dependence between delinquent and non-delinquent population. The research sample consisted of eighty men who were sentenced to imprisonment in Prison Kuřim. The experimental group consisted of forty men who were sentenced for the perpetration of at least one violent crime. The control group consisted of forty men who were sentenced for nonviolent crimes. Field dependence was measured by Embedded Figures Test and aggressiveness was measured by Hand Test and B-D-I. In the theoretical part we have written three chapters about criminal behaviour, aggression and field dependence/independence. In the research part we have presented our research project and its results. Between the experimental and the control group there was found the difference in aggressiveness (members of the experimental group were more aggressive) but there was not found the difference in field dependence. There was also found out that delinquent population is more field dependent than non-delinquent population. The relation between aggressiveness identified by Hand Test and aggressiveness identified by B-D-I was closer in the control group than in the experimental group. There was also found the relation between field dependence and aggressiveness identified by Hand Test but there was not found the relation between field dependence and aggressiveness identified by B-D-I.
