Obligatory reading for high schools and the current approach: motivate or discourage reading?

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Obligatory reading for high schools and the current approach: motivate or discourage reading? This thesis deals with approach of high school students to required reading. It is divided into two main parts, the theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consists of three parts. In the first part, there are defined terms and various typologies of readers. The second part briefly introduces studies, which are in part related to research problems. The third section briefly introduces the concept of the current obligatory reading in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Matter of the practical part is the evaluation of survey, in which high school students, attending high school with graduation, answer questions about their positions on on freetime reading and obligatory reading. Aim of the research is to find out what books are currently read by high school students and their satisfaction with the current setting of required reading and to propose changes.

Abstract:

Bakalárska diplomová práca Povinné čítanie na stredných školách a jeho súčasná koncepcia: Motivuje alebo odrádza od čítania? je zameraná na prístup stredoškolákov k povinnému čítaniu. Rozdelená je na dve hlavné časti, teoretickú a praktickú. Teoretická časť sa skladá z troch častí. V prvej sú vymedzené pojmy a spracované rôzne typológie čitateľov. V druhej časti stručne predstavujem výskumy, ktoré z časti súvisia so skúmanou problematikou. V tretej časti stručne predstavujem súčasnú koncepciu povinného čítania v Českej republike a na Slovensku. Obsahom praktickej časti je vyhodnotenie dotazníka, v ktorom žiaci stredných škôl s maturitným oborom odpovedali na otázky týkajúce sa ich postojov k čítaniu a k povinnému čítaniu. Cieľom výskumu je zistiť, aké knihy stredoškoláci v súčasnosti čítajú, ich spokojnosť so súčasným nastavením povinnej literatúry a navrhnúť zmeny.
