The Effect of the use of De-escalation Techniques on the Number of Restrictions in Patients with Mental Retardation

Abstract:

Práce je věnována problematice implementace deeskalačních technik do praxe zdravotnického personálu s cílem snížit použití omezujících prostředků u pacientů s mentální retardací. První část práce, teoretická, definuje odborné pojmy nutné k uvedení do problematiky, definuje mentální retardaci, poruchy chování a blíže se zaměří na nejčastější poruchu chování, kde lze aplikovat deeskalační techniky, agresi. Dále definuje deeskalaci, její formy a jejich teoretické uvedení do praxe. Praktická část práce se zabývá aplikací deeskalačních metod na konkrétním lékařském pracovišti v Psychiatrické nemocnici Horní Beřkovice. Vyhodnocuje úspěšnost uvedení deeskalačních metod do praxe a průzkumným šetřením ověřuje znalosti nelékařského personálu nemocnice o deeskalačních metodách s cílem odklonění pacientů od agrese právě deeskalačními technikami místo omezujícími prostředky. Cílem práce je zjistit využívání deeskalačních metod a ověřit jejich využití v každodenní praxi nelékařských pracovníků odklánějícího pacienty s mentální retardací od agrese. V závěru práce je uvedeno shrnutí zjištěných faktů a vyvození závěrů z praktické části.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis aims to the implementation of de-escalation techniques in the practice of medical staff in order to reduce the use of restraints on patients with mental retardation. The first part of the work, theoretical, defines the technical terms necessary to introduce the issue, defines mental retardation, behavioral disorders and focuses on the most common behavioral disorder, where de-escalation techniques can be applied. It also defines de-escalation, its forms and their theoretical implementation. The practical part of the work deals with the application of de-escalation methods at a specific medical workplace in the Psychiatric Hospital Horní Beřkovice. It evaluates the success of putting de-escalation methods into practice and verifies, with the questionnaire survey, the awareness of non-medical staff about de-escalation methods with the aim of diverting patients from aggression by de-escalation techniques instead of restrictive once. The aim of the work is to find out the use of de-escalation methods and to verify their use in the daily practice of non-medical staff diverting patients with mental retardation from aggression. At the end of the work is a summary of the facts and drawing conclusions from the practical part.
