Cieslar's Critique of the Dietl-Kozák Culture (subtitle: Jiří Cieslar and his Reviews of Home Film Production in the Underground Periodical Acta Incognitorum)

Anotácia:

Práce se zabývá texty filmového kritika Jiřího Cieslara, které vycházely v letech 1976 až 1988 v podzemním periodiku Acta Incognitorum. Toto periodikum vydávalo neformální uskupení Societas incognitorum eruditorum (SIE), jehož byl Cieslar řádným členem. SIE navazovala na osvícenskou skupinu se stejným názvem. Obě společnosti spojovalo to, že se nemohly zapojit do tehdejších společenských struktur, a tak hledaly ze své situace východisko v podobě více či méně organizovaného setkávání a vydávání časopisu. K rozboru textů jsem využila Gadamerovy hermeneutiky. Společným rysem Cieslarových kritik je něco, pro co by se dal použít Cieslarův termín dietlovsko-kozákovská kultura. Cieslar na filmech kritizuje únikovost a přílišnou konvenčnost. K hodnocení Cieslar využívá normativní etiky, etiky autonomie a etiky odpovědnosti. Často se uchyluje k autorskému čtení filmů a využívání psychologického a zvláště pak biografického hlediska. V případě, že texty vyšly nejen v AI, ale i v oficiálním tisku, podrobuji tyto dvě verze srovnání.

Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with reviews by the film critic Jiří Cieslar that were published between 1976 and 1988 in the underground periodical Acta Incognitorum. This periodical was issued by the informal formation Societas incognitorum eruditorum (SIE), of which Cieslar was a regular member. SIE took up the tradition and the name of an Enlightenment grouping. Both societies shared the same problem – they could not take part in the contemporary social structures – and they both sought the same solution: more or less organized meetings and publishing of a magazine. For my analysis of the reviews, I employ Gadamer´s hermeneutics. The common feature of Cieslar´s reviews is what he himself called “the Dietl-Kozák culture”. What Cieslar criticizes in these films is their conventionality and escapism. For his evaluation, Cieslar employs normative ethics, the ethics of autonomy and the ethics of responsibility. Frequently, he resorts to the authorial reading of films and to the application of psychological and especially biographical viewpoint. In case the texts appeared not only in Acta Incognitorum but also in the official press, I compare the two versions.
