Great Britain in the Process of Multi-speed EU

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce má za cíl teoreticky objasnit koncept diferenciace evropské integrace včetně možností jeho měření a na tomto základě určit význam Velké Británie pro rozvoj diferenciace integrace v Evropě. Práce se nejprve zabývá přehledem souvisejících teorií evropské integrace a teorie diferenciace a přispívá tak k doposud poměrně omezené akademické debatě na toto téma. Dále práce aplikuje dosažené teoretické poznatky na multidisciplinární analýzu členství Velké Británie v evropské integraci, kterou následně podporuje zpracovanými daty na základě doposud jediného komplexního indexu měřícího evropskou ekonomickou integraci – EU-indexu podle Ohrové a Königa. Práce dochází k závěru, že fenomén diferenciace je úzce spjatý jak se samotným rozvojem evropské integrace, tak s členstvím Velké Británie v ES/EU.

Abstract:

This dissertation aims to theoretically clarify the concept of differentiation of European integration, including the possibilities of its measurement, and on this basis to determine the importance of Great Britain for the development of differentiation of integration in Europe. The work first deals with an overview of the related European integration theories and the theory of differentiation and thus contributes to the relatively limited academic debate on this topic. Furthermore, the thesis applies the achieved theoretical knowledge to a multidisciplinary analysis of Great Britain's membership in European integration, which it further supports with processed data based on the only comprehensive index measuring European economic integration so far - the EU-index according to Ohr and König. The thesis concludes that the phenomenon of differentiation is closely related both to the development of European integration, and to Great Britain's membership in the EC/EU.
