Operations in a distribution center of a retail company

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje činnostem v distribučním centru a analyzuje jeho postavení v logistickém řetězci. V teoretické části práce jsou popsány a vysvětleny pojmy jako retail, retailová firma, distribuční logistika a procesy skladování. V praktické části práce je představeno distribuční centrum a obsahuje popis jednotlivých činností v distribučním centru. Cílem práce je analyzovat informační a zbožové toky spojené s distribučním centrem a ostatními články řetězce, jako jsou dodavatelé, nákup a prodejny. V práci jsou využita schémata pro znázornění procesů, metoda pozorování a rozhovory s managementem firmy, celá práce je doplněna o fotografický materiál. V závěru jsou shrnuty výsledky analýz a navržena doporučení pro další zlepšení činnosti distribučního centra. Distribuční centrum má klíčovou roli v logistickém řetězci a je nezbytné pro úspěšný chod retailové firmy.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the activities in the distribution centre and analyses its position in the logistics chain. In the theoretical part of the thesis, concepts such as retail, retail company, distribution logistics and warehousing processes are described and explained. The practical part of the thesis introduces the distribution centre and contains a description of the different activities in the distribution centre. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the information and goods flows associated with the distribution centre and other links in the chain such as suppliers, purchasing and stores. The thesis uses diagrams to illustrate the processes, the method of observation and interviews with company management, the whole thesis is supplemented with photographic material. Finally, the results of the analyses are summarized and recommendations for further improvement of the distribution center operations are proposed. The distribution centre plays a key role in the logistics chain and is essential for the successful operation of a retail company.
