Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zobrazením afroamerických vojáků v nedávno natočených válečných filmech pojednávajících o druhé světové válce a válce ve Vietnamu. Práce se zaměřuje na tři filmy, a to Red Tails, Miracle at St. Anna, a Da 5 Bloods. Cílem této práce je za pomoci analýz jednotlivých filmů ukázat, jak jsou afroameričtí vojáci v těchto filmech zobrazováni, a jaká byla zkušenost těchto vojáků v armádě. Tato práce se zaměřuje na vyzdvihnutí toho, že vybrané filmy zobrazují afroamerické vojáky jako stejně zručné a loajální jako bílé vojáky, i přesto, že jsou vystaveni institucionálnímu rasismu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the portrayal of African American soldiers in recent war movies, which deal with World War II and the Vietnam War. The focus of the thesis is on three movies – Red Tails, Miracle at St. Anna, and Da 5 Bloods. Through analysing the movies, the thesis aims to show how African American soldiers are portrayed in the movies, and what the experience of the soldiers in the military was like. The thesis concentrates on showing that African American soldiers are just as skilled and loyal as white soldiers, despite being subjected to institutional racism.
