Formy a funkce angličtiny na Srí Lance

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is dedicated to English in Sri Lanka, particularly its forms and functions. The first chapter focuses on the historical and cultural background from prehistory until present time with emphasis on the British colonisation and rule. The second chapter deals with education and language policies during the colonial and post-colonial periods. The third chapter surveys the Sri Lankan language landscape, which is created by the many languages, for example English which has developed into several varieties described in the fourth chapter. This chapter contains the description of the differences between the most common variety Sri Lankan English and Standard British English. The fifth chapter explores the functions of English in areas of administration, judiciary, education, business, communication, media, IT and literature. The sixth chapter investigates the attitudes towards English between different social and age groups. The seventh chapter is oriented towards the use of English in the future of Sri Lanka.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá angličtinou na Srí Lance, konkrétně jejími formami a funkcemi. První kapitola se zaměřuje na historické a kulturní pozadí od prehistorie po současnost s důrazem na britskou vládu v době kolonizace. Druhá kapitola se zabývá vzděláváním a jazykovou politikou v době kolonizace a po skončení kolonizace. Třetí kapitola zkoumá jazykovou krajinu Srí Lanky, která je tvořena mnoha jazyky, například angličtinou, která se vyvinula do několika variant popsaných ve čtvrté kapitole. Tato kapitola také obsahuje popis rozdílů mezi nejběžnější variantou označovanou jako Srí Lanská angličtina a Standartní Britskou angličtinou. Pátá kapitola se zabývá funkcemi angličtiny v oblastech administrativy, soudnictví, vzdělání, obchodu, komunikace, médií, IT a literatury. Šestá kapitola zkoumá postoje k angličtině mezi různými sociálními a věkovými skupinami. Sedmá kapitola je orientována na budoucí používání angličtiny na Srí Lance.
