Ladislav Sutnar and his Advertising Creation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce představuje popis rozvoje reklamy, typografie a grafického designu v meziválečném období, a to na příkladu významného československého tvůrce typografie, grafiky a reklamy Ladislava Sutnara. Jeho rozsáhlá činnost značně ovlivnila vznik a rozvoj těchto tvůrčích disciplín, a proto v bakalářské práci byla provedena analýza jeho postupů a díla. Při vzniku a rozvoji oborů designu a reklamy sehrály zásadní roli zejména Spojené státy. První část práce se zabývá podrobným popisem vývoje reklamy a tvůrčí činností Ladislava Sutnara v Československu. Zejména je kladen důraz na jeho spolupráci s reklamním fotografem Josefem Sudkem. Druhá část se věnuje dílům Ladislava Sutnara jako grafického designera ve Spojených státech. Je zde popsán význam projektu Americké Venuše a jeho možné uplatnění v dnešní době. Úvahová kapitola obsahuje myšlenky autorky práce a názory Ladislava Sutnara, které mohou být uplatněny i dnes.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis describes the development of advertising, typography and graphic design in the interwar period on the example of a major Czechoslovak typography, graphics and advertising creator Ladislav Sutnar. His extensive work greatly influenced the formation and development of these creative disciplines, and therefore, thesis contains analysis of his procedures and work. The creation and development of design and advertising industries a vital role was played especially by the United States. The first part of the thesis deals with the detailed description of the development of advertising and the creative activities of Ladislav Sutnar in Czechoslovakia, with emphasis on his cooperation with advertising photographer Josef Sudek. The second part deals with works of Ladislav Sutnar as a graphic designer in the United States. Here is the description of the importance of U. S. Venus Project and its possible application today. The reflection chapter contains the thoughts of the author of the thesis and the opinions of Ladislav Sutnar that can be applied today.
