Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem změn v anglickém jazyce a jeho výslovnosti za poslední desetiletí. Zejména se soustřeďuje na vývoj nového akcentu – Estuary English – který vznikl zejména díky působení Cockney, tedy akcentu londýnské dělnické třídy, na anglický výslovnostní standard – Received Pronunciation (RP). Někteří lingvisti se domnívají, že tento „nový“ akcent v budoucnu RP nahradí. Jazykové variety Cockney a Estuary English jsou popsány z hlediska jazykového i sociolingvistického, a také jsou vzájemně porovnány. Zároveň jsou v práci uvedeny změny, které byly přijaty RP.

Abstract:

The present thesis deals with the changes that occurred in English language over the few last decades. It focuses especially on a newly observed variety called Estuary English, which developed thanks to the impact of Cockney, the London’s working-class dialect, on Received Pronunciation (RP), the English pronunciation standard and model. Estuary English is by some linguists considered to be “the new RP” and is believed to replace RP completely in the future. Both Cockney and Estuary English are described from both linguistic and sociolinguistic point of view, and compared as well. Also, the changes that occurred in RP are described.
