Cultural history of carp in the Czech lands

Abstract:

Kapr je (nejen) v našich zemích tématem, o němž bylo napsáno mnoho, ať už v odborných či populárně-naučných textech. Jedná se však převážně o pohled biologický či hospodářský, kulturní aspekty často zůstávají stranou. Tato práce je chce zahrnout do uceleného vnímání a upozornit jednotlivé vědecké obce (humanitní a přírodovědnou) navzájem na mezery v poznání. Práce představuje domestikovanou formu kapra jako potomka divoké říční formy, jemuž je věnovaná její úvodní kapitola. Nabízí tři pohledy na kapra jako na rybu k užitku chovanou (produkovanou), konzumovanou v rámci vánoční tradice, ale i mimo ni, a v umění užitou. Zaměřuje se na environmentální aspekty chovu, života i smrti a konzumace kapra v českých zemích včera a dnes. V závěru nabízí syntézu některých nových environmentálních souvislostí.

Abstract:

Carp fish is a topic that has been reflected in many scientific and popular texts. It is usually considered from a biological or agronomical point of view, however, cultural aspects stay aside. This thesis would like to involve cultural aspects to offer an integrated overlook and make both scientific branches (biological and humanistic) aware of gaps in their understanding. The thesis presents domestiated morph of carp as a descendent of wild river ancestor which is introduced in the first chapter. It is bringing three insights on the carp fish, firstly it is carp as the fish breeded for our profit, second one is carp as a traditional Christmas dish and a food for every day's table, the last point of view presents carp as a subject to art. It concentrates on environmental aspects of breeding, life, death and consummation of carp in Czech lands in history and nowdays. In the end it offers synthesis of environmental contexts that appeared during the research.
