Development and Transition in Cambodia

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je věnována rozvoji a tranzitivním procesům probíhajícím v Kambodžském království od pádu poslední komunistické republiky. Cílem práce je zhodnocení úrovně rozvoje království v kontextu politické a ekonomické tranzice. Teoretická část je zaměřena na pojetí termínů rozvoj a tranzice. Dále je uvedena stručná geografická charakteristika země a historický kontext politické a ekonomické situace v zemi. Čtvrtá kapitola je již věnována politické tranzici, tedy popisu tranzitivního procesu od 90. let do současnosti. Pátá kapitola je zaměřena na tranzici ekonomickou zahrnující také zahraniční vliv, další trendy kambodžské ekonomiky a zhodnocení rozvoje. Práce je vypracována na základě kompilace odborné literatury. Úroveň rozvoje je ovšem hodnocena pomocí ukazatelů HDP a HDI, přičemž výsledky jsou komparovány se zjištěnými informacemi. Výsledek práce poukazuje na to, že se Kambodža relativně úspěšně ekonomicky rozvíjí i přes zjevnou politickou stagnaci.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is devoted to the development and transition processes ongoing in the Kingdom of Cambodia since the fall of the last communist republic. The thesis aims to evaluate the level of development in the context of political and economic transition in the kingdom. The theoretical part focuses on the concept of development and transition, followed by a brief geographical characteristic and the historical context of the political and economic situation in the country. The fourth chapter is devoted to the political transition, thus, the description of the transitional process from the 1990s to the present. The fifth chapter focuses on the economic transition and includes foreign influence, other trends in the Cambodian economy, and the evaluation of development. The work is based on a compilation of professional literature. However, the level of development is evaluated by using GDP and HDI indicators, and the results are compared with the information obtained. The result of the work points to the relatively successful economic development of Cambodia despite the apparent political stagnation.
