Effect of frustration on Outdoor Survival Course Participants' self-esteem

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje faktorům ovlivňujícím sebehodnocení osobnosti. Důraz je zde kladen na prožitek jedince v určitých situacích coby spouštěč osobnostního růstu. Konkrétně jsou v centru našeho zájmu takové podmínky, kdy se jedinec dostává do situace nepříjemné, náročné, která brání v naplnění určité potřeby, avšak je zároveň zvládnutelná. Teoretická část se věnuje sebehodnocení v kontextu dynamického systému osobnosti, popisuje jeho utváření, specifika a faktory, které jej mohou ovlivnit. V další části jsou pak nastíněny základní přístupy k náročným životním situacím, s důrazem na jejich zvládání a psychickou odolnost jedince. Praktická část popisuje výzkumnou sondu do specifického fungování konkrétního kurzu přežití v přírodě, kdy byly sledovány právě tyto veličiny - zažívaná frustrace a sebehodnocení účastníků. Cílem tohoto výzkumu bylo zjistit, zda měl kurz (potažmo frustrace) vliv na míru sebehodnocení účastníků a zda existuje vztah mezi touto případnou změnou sebehodnocení a pohlavím respondentů.

Abstract:

This work considers the factors influencing one?s self-esteem. Emphasis is placed on the experience of an individual as a trigger for one?s growth as a person. We are specifically interested in the conditions which lead an individual into an unpleasant and demanding situation, stopping them from fulfilling a need, the situation being nevertheless manageable. The theoretical part deals with self-esteem in the context of the dynamic system of personality. It describes the formation, specific traits and factors that can influence this system. The following sections outline the basic attitudes and approaches to difficult life events with the emphasis on coping with these and the mental endurance of the individual. The practical part describes a research probe into the specific functioning of a particular nature survival course where these very values were observed ? frustration and self-esteem experienced by the participants. The aim of this research was to determine whether the course (and subsequently frustration) affected the degree of the participants? self-esteem and whether there is relationship between this possible change in self-esteem and the gender of the subjects.
