Astrobiology: Status quo and potential for recent plant physiology

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je představit vědní pole astrobiologie, podat obecně přehled jeho hlavních objektů zájmu, a dále do detailu pojednat o té části astrobiologie, která se zabývá rostlinami. V této druhé části je vysvětlen význam vesmírného výzkumu biologie rostlin a všechny jeho hlavní přístupy a metody jsou posouzeny na historickém pozadí. Zahrnuty jsou také informace o současném pokroku a plány pro blízkou budoucnost. Důraz je kladen na výzkum cévnatých rostlin, jakožto i na ostatní fotosyntetizující organismy jako jsou řasy, sinice a lišejníky. Nakonec jsou shrnuty nejdůležitější závěry a objevy, které astrobiologie přinesla z hlediska fyziologie rostlin.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to introduce the scientific field of astrobiology, overview its main areas of interest in general, and further elaborate the part of astrobiology, which deals with plants in detail. In the latter, importance of space plant biology research is explained and all its major methods and approaches are reviewed on the historical background. Included are also the recent progress and plans for the near future. Emphasis is given to the research of vascular plants, as well as of other photosyntetizing organisms like algae, cyanobacteria and lichens. In the end, the most important conclusions and discoveries in terms of plant physiology, brought by astrobiology, are summarized.
