Influence of stay in domestic violence center on social relationships in the eyes of children

Abstract:

The presented work represents a contribution to the actual findings in living conditions of children in danger of domestic violence and in help which is offered to these children in the environment of asylum houses for mothers and children. The aim of this work is to answer the main research question: 'Whether and how does according to the children of younger school age in danger of domestic violence a stay in an asylum house for mothers and children influence the field of their social relations?' The work is trying to penetrate the problem through the perspective of children living in asylum houses together with their mothers, it includes everyday life of these children, their relations and it points out problems these children are confronted with in these relations. Changes in relations that appear after a child is accepted into an asylum house are monitored in two levels. The first one is the change of quality of the relations that a child had already built up before coming to the institution, the second one is a partial transformation in his or her relation net. This work discloses mechanisms through which the environment of an asylum house influences the social relations of children.

Abstract:

Predkladaná práca predstavuje príspevok k doterajším poznatkom ohľadom životnej situácie detí ohrozených domácim násilím a im poskytovanej pomoci v podmienkach azylových domov pre matky s deťmi. Jej cieľom je zodpovedať hlavnú výskumnú otázku: „Či a akým spôsobom podľa detí mladšieho školského veku ohrozených domácim násilím ovplyvňuje pobyt v azylovom dome pre matky s deťmi oblasť ich sociálnych vzťahov?“ Práca sa snaží preniknúť do problematiky skrze perspektívu detí žijúcich spolu s ich matkami v azylovom dome, zachycuje každodenný život detí, ich vzťahy a upozorňuje na problémy, s ktorými sa deti v týchto vzťahoch stretávajú. Zmeny vo vzťahoch, ktoré nastávajú po príchode dieťaťa do azylového domu sleduje na dvoch úrovniach. Prvou z nich je zmena kvality vzťahov, ktoré malo dieťa vybudované už pred príchodom do zariadenia, druhou je čiastočná transformácia jeho vzťahovej siete. Práca odkrýva mechanizmy, skrze ktoré prostredie azylového domu na sociálne vzťahy detí pôsobí.
