The recovery of autonomy and the return to home of an elderly hemiplegic patient following a displaced fracture of the femur: case report

Abstract:

The present work will describe the fracture of the femoral shaft from an anatomical and physiological point of view. Likewise, hemiplegia, the central nervous system and lesions of the pyramidal and extrapyramidal systems, which involve motor deficits, will be treated. As far as these topics are concerned, the necessary surgical, pharmacological and physiotherapeutic treatments will be studied. This paper will describe the clinical case of an elderly hemiplegic patient who suffered a fracture of the femoral shaft, surgically treated with intramedullary nailing. The physiotherapy treatment, started within forty-eight hours after the surgery, aims to allow the patient to recover the previous autonomy and to improve the quality of his life.

Abstract:

Il presente lavoro descriver? dal punto di vista anatomico e fisiologico la frattura della diafisi femorale. Parimenti, saranno trattati: l'emiplegia, il sistema nervoso centrale e le lesioni dei sistemi piramidale ed extrapiramidale, che comportano deficit motori. In relazione a quanto detto, saranno approfonditi i trattamenti chirurgici, farmacologici e fisioterapici necessari. All'interno di questo elaborato sar? descritto il caso clinico di un paziente anziano emiplegico che ha riportato una frattura della diafisi femorale, trattata chirurgicamente con inchiodamento endomidollare. Il trattamento fisioterapico iniziato entro le quarantott'ore dall'intervento chirurgico ha come obiettivo principale quello di permettere al paziente di recuperare l'autonomia pregressa e di migliorarne la qualit? della vita.
