Regional competitiveness of the Liberec Region, Görlitz in Saxony and the Jelenia Góra District in Poland

Abstract:

Regionální konkurenceschopnost je téma, o kterém se v dnešní době často diskutuje, a to nejen v České republice, ale i po celém světě. Pojem konkurenceschopnost není lehce definovatelný a velmi záleží na zvolených indikátorech, podle kterých bude hodnocen. Hlavním cílem diplomové práce je za pomoci vybraných socioekonomických ukazatelů stanovit index regionální konkurenceschopnosti za tři zvolené příhraniční regiony. Jedná se o česko-německo-polské území, konkrétně o okres Zhořelec v Sasku, Jelenohorský subregion v Polsku a Liberecký kraj. Data byla zjišťována ze statistického úřadu Evropské unie neboli Eurostatu, ale také ze statistických úřadů a úřadů práce jednotlivých zemí. Na základě získaných dat byla provedena socioekonomická analýza celého území a vyhodnoceny regionální rozdíly. Následoval výpočet indexu konkurenceschopnosti, který byl sestaven ze sedmi vybraných ukazatelů z oblasti trhu práce, ekonomiky a obyvatelstva, jejich průměrných hodnot a hodnot na počátku a na konci sledovaného období. Na základě výsledků lze konstatovat, že Liberecký kraj dopadl ze všech třech regionů nejlépe a je tedy nejvíce konkurenceschopný. Tomuto faktu napomohla velmi dobrá situace na trhu práce či kladný přirozený přírůstek. Ostatní dva regiony v tomto výrazně zaostávají. Dále bylo zjištěno, že okres Zhořelec a Jelenohorský subregion se od Libereckého kraje svojí konkurenceschopností spíše vzdalují.

Abstract:

Regional competitiveness is a topic that is often discussed today, not only in the Czech Republic, but also around the world. The concept of competitiveness is not easily definable and very much depends on the selected indicators, according to which it will be evaluated. The main goal of the diploma thesis is to determine the index of regional competitiveness for three selected border regions with the help of selected socio-economic indicators. These are the Czech-German-Polish territory, specifically the district of Görlitz in Saxony, the Jelenia Góra subregion in Poland and the Liberec region. The data were obtained from the statistical office of the European Union or Eurostat, but also from the statistical offices and labour offices of individual countries. Based on the obtained data, a socio-economic analysis of the whole area was performed, and regional differences were evaluated. This was followed by the calculation of the competitiveness index, which was composed of seven selected indicators from the labour market, economy and population, their average values and values at the beginning and end of the period under review. Based on the results, it can be stated that the Liberec region performed best of all three regions and is therefore the most competitive. This fact was helped by an incredibly good situation on the labour market or a positive natural increase. The other two regions lag far behind. It was also found that the district of Görlitz and the Jelenia Góra subregion are more distant from the Liberec region due to their competitiveness.
