Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání situace výuky literatury v rámci hodin anglického jazyka na středních školách, stejně jako na názory studentů, zda by se chtěli učit o literatuře více. První část práce nabízí pohled na vyučování literatury a upozorňuje na důvody a výhody, přičemž nastiňuje i metody a strategie jak správně naučit studenty číst, aby mohli snadněji do cizojazyčného textu proniknout. Studenti středních škol jsou specifickou skupinou a jejich výuka vyžaduje jiné postupy, než děti nebo dospělí, kteří se učí anglicky, a proto tato diplomová práce navrhuje, jak s těmito studenty zacházet tak, aby byla výuka co nejefektivnější. Práce se dále zabývá materiály, které jsou vhodné při výuce literatury, a představuje kritéria, kterými by se měl učitel anglicky psané literatury řídit, aby u studentů došlo nejen k rozvoji cizího jazyka, ale aby nabyli i literárních a kulturních znalostí. Výzkumy byly zaměřeny na dvě cílové skupiny. První z nich byla skupina učitelů, kteří odpovídali na otázky zaměřené především na jejich zkušenosti s výukou literatury. Vzorová hodina literatury byla odučena na vybrané střední škole a byla součástí výzkumu, kdy odpovídajícími byli studenti této střední školy. Otázky se týkaly nejenom literární hodiny, ale i jejich zájmu učit se více literatury v rámci jejich hodin angličtiny. Z odpovědí učitelů i studentů byl vyvozen závěr, který potvrzuje, že vyučování literatury má mnoho výhod a je pro studenty velmi zajímavým odvětvím, kterému by mělo být věnováno více času v hodinách angličtiny.

Abstract:

The main aims of the thesis are to map the current situation of teaching literature during English classes in Czech secondary schools as well as reasons for including literature into curriculums. The initial part of the thesis introduces a variety of reasons for and benefits of teaching literature and it also presents strategies and methods for sufficient reading teaching. Because the targeted students are students of secondary schools, the group of adolescents is introduced in terms of the most suitable ways of approaching them. The theory of creating a lesson plan and selecting an applicable text precedes the part of the thesis when an actual literature based lesson plan is created and used in a classroom in order to find out whether students are interested in literature and whether they believe it is of any use for them. Also a survey amongst mostly secondary school teachers was created and analysed to see whether teachers of English have any experience with teaching literature and if they see any benefits of teaching it. The thesis concludes with a summary of theoretical reasons for teaching literature in ESL classroom as well as with a summary of responses of teachers and students which shows, that students are interested in literature and they would like to learn more about it. Teachers also saw many benefits of involving literature into their lesson plan but they were worried about the time issue. The overall results confirmed the initial hypothesis that literature has its place in ESL classroom and should not be omitted.
