Tato práce se zabývá zkoumáním dvou přístupů v cizojazyčné výuce, konkrétně jde o přístupy strukturální a funkční, s cílem dokázat že funkční přístup k výuce je efektivnější než přístup strukturální. Toho se práce snaží dosáhnout zkoumáním vývoje cizojazyčné výuky a metod, které jsou založeny na principech těchto dvou přístupů.
