Study of heavy minerals at the pyrope deposit in Dolní Olešnice

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je separace těžkých minerálů (TM) z odebraného materiálu z ložiska v Dolní Olešnici, jejich identifikace a stanovení chemického složení vybraných minerálních fází. Identifikace jednotlivých minerálů byla zjištěna pomocí ramanova spektrometru a TIMA mapování. Chemické složení bylo stanoveno elektronovou mikrosondou. Z těchto analytických metod vyplynulo jednotlivé zastoupení těžkých minerálů v separovaném materiálu, předem roztřízeném na několik velikostních frakcí. Ve všech zrnitostních frakcích výrazně převládaly Fe oxidy. Dále zde byly identifikovány a blíže charakterizovány minerály: pyrop, almandin, spessartin, ilmenit, rutil, zirkon, apatit, turmalín (dravit, skoryl, oxy-dravit, oxy-skoryl, magnesio-foitit), amfiboly, monazit-(Ce), monazit-(Nd), baryt, Cr-spinely, gahnit, xenotim-(Y), pyroxeny, kasiterit, olivín, staurolit, goyazit, sfalerit, titanit a kyanit. Vzhledem k velkému počtu nalezených TM, byla za účelem zjištění možných zdrojových hornin vybrána pouze skupina granátu a turmalínu. Chemické složení granátu bylo vyneseno do diskriminačních diagramů a porovnáno s granáty z hornin Českého masivu. Pyropy pocházejí z granátických peridotitů. Část almandinů bohatých pyropovou a grosulárovou složkou odpovídá chemismem granátům z intermediálních granulitů. Almandiny s vyšším obsahem spessartinové a grossulárové komponenty by mohly pocházet z metapelitů krkonošsko-jizerského krystalinika anebo z kyselých granulitů a rul Sových Hor. Turmalíny odpovídají svým chemismem turmalínům z Al chudých ale i Al bohatých metapelitů, granitů a aplitů a vykazují částečnou shodu s turmalíny ze svorů krkonošsko-jizerského krystalinika.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on the separation of heavy minerals from the material collected from the Dolní Olešnice deposit, their identification and determination of the chemical composition of selected mineral phases. The identification of individual minerals was determined using Raman spectroscopy and TIMA mapping. The chemical composition was determined using electron microprobe. These analytical methods yielded individual abundances of heavy minerals in the separated material, pre-sieved into several size fractions. Iron oxides were significantly predominant in all grain size fractions. Following minerals were also identified and further characterized: pyrope, almandine, spessartine, ilmenite, rutile, zircon, apatite, tourmaline (dravite, schorl, oxy - dravite, oxy-schorl, magnesio-foitite), amphiboles, monazite-(Ce), monazite-(Nd), baryte, Cr-spinels, gahnite, xenotime-(Y), pyroxenes, cassiterite, olivine, staurolite, goyazite, sphalerite, titanite and kyanite. Due to the large number of heavy minerals identified, only the garnet and tourmaline group minerals were selected in order to identify possible source rocks. The chemical composition of the garnet was plotted in discriminant diagrams and compared with garnets from the rocks of the Bohemian Massif. Pyrope garnets were sourced from garnet peridotites, some of the almandines with higher pyrope and grossular components correspond chemically to garnets from intermediate granulites. The almandines with higher spessartine and grossular components could be derived from metapelites of the Krkonoše-Jizera crystalline unit or from acidic granulites and gneisses of the Soví hory Mountains. The tourmaline compositions are similar to the one of tourmalines from Al-poor and Al-rich metapelites, granites and aplites. Chemical composition of some tourmalines shows similarity to the ones from mica schists of the Krkonoše-Jizera crystalline unit.
