Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce přináší komplexní pohled na dějiny poddanského města Strakonice v období 15. století, kdy bylo město v jihozápadních Čechách zcela v držení rytířského řádu sv. Jana Jeruzalémského. Zaměřuje se na výjimečné postavení Strakonic odvislé od jeho johanitské správy, na události v celé jejich šíři odehrávající se na panství a v neposlední řadě na vývoj města ve sledovaném období. Nesoustřeďuje se pouze na děje spjaté s osobami generálních převorů či řádového konventu, ale snaží se zachytit i záležitosti týkající se každodenního života tamějších měšťanů a poddaných strakonického panství. Dějiny poddanského města Strakonice, ležícího na soutoku řek Otavy a Volyňky, jsou neodmyslitelně spjaty s významným a v českém prostředí jedním z nejdéle fungujícím rytířským řádem sv. Jana Jeruzalémského. Ten se zásluhou šlechtického rodu Bavoroviců usadil v jihozápadních Čechách a díky jeho neutuchající přízni vytvořil jeden z předních řádových domů v české oblasti. Poté co šlechtický vládnoucí rod vymřel, bylo logickým vyústěním, že řád, jenž byl v oblasti Pootaví za téměř dvousetleté výročí zcela adaptován, odkoupil světskou část panství, která z vlastnictví Bavorů přešla za nejasných okolností na nižšího šlechtice Vikéře z Jenišovic. Tato nákladná finanční transakce, která neměla dosud v řádových dějinách obdoby a představovala pro rytíře sv. Jana Jeruzalémského značnou finanční zátěž, učinila ze Strakonic důležitou oporu katolické strany v jihozápadních Čechách. Do neklidných let 15. století, silně ovlivněnými událostmi spojenými s husitskou revolucí a sekularizací církevního majetku v letech 1420-1437, vstoupily Strakonice pod správou generálních převorů jako město silně inklinující k protireformnímu proudu.Bouřlivé období husitských válek, které vrhlo české země na desetiletí do válečného stavu, tak přečkalo město Strakonice společně s řádovou komendou bez významnějších majetkových změn, přestože se rozkládalo v politicky exponované oblasti jihozápadních Čech. Význam města z pozice řádových dějin se ještě více umocnil, poté co byl v důsledku pražských událostí v roce 1419 spojenými s husitským hnutím zacíleným hlavně proti kostelům a klášterům zničen pražský konvent na Malé Straně, a proto bylo přesunuto řádové centrum do Strakonic. Tamější hrad, který odolal čtrnáctidennímu Žižkovu obléhání, se stal v ten moment největší řádovou komendou v českém království. Z husitských válek, sekularizační politiky Zikmunda Lucemburského a úchvatů katolické šlechty vzešlo město Strakonice se stejným pozemkovým zázemím, jakým disponovalo na začátku 15. století, poté co bylo panství sceleno řádovými rytíři. Strakonická johanitská komenda tak na konci první poloviny 15. století tvořila ekonomické jádro celé provincie a stala se nejbohatším konventním domem nejen v Čechách ale i v celém převorátu.Významně determinujícím faktorem pro vývoj města během celého 15. století byly osoby generálních převorů v roli vrchnosti a správců celého panství. Vlivem jejich politiky se Strakonice, ačkoliv se nacházely v samém ohnisku odpůrců katolicismu, staly společně s panstvím šlechtického rodu Rožmberků silným stoupencem katolické jednoty na jihu Čech. Mezi generálními převory a měšťany jejich residenčního města panovaly dobré vztahy, k čemuž napomáhaly zvláště konfirmace výsad či nová privilegia učiněná vrchností, jež představovaly významný krok ve vnitřním vývoji města a výrazné zkvalitnění života strakonických poddaných.Přestože ve druhé polovině 15. století byli v čele Strakonic představitelé, jejichž snahou bylo v

ykupování církevních a řádových majetků, v důsledku čehož byli nuceni zastavovat další řádové pozemky, vždy se snažili ušetřit jihočeské řádové panství a zanechat centralizovanou strakonickou pozemkovou doménu nedotčenou.

Abstract:

The presented dissertation provides a comprehensive overview of the history of the feudal town of Strakonice in the 15th century when the town in southwestern Bohemia was entirely held by the knightly order of St. John of Jerusalem. It focuses on the unique position of Strakonice due to its Johannite administration, on the events in their entirety taking place on the estate and last but not least on the development of the town in the given period. It does not focus only on events associated with the persons of general priors or monastic convent but it tries to capture the matters of everyday life of the local burghers and peasants of the Strakonice estate. The history of the feudal town of Strakonice located at the confluence of the Otava and Volyňka Rivers is inherently associated with the important - and in the Czech Republic one of the longest functioning - knightly order of St. John of Jerusalem. Thanks to the noble family of Bavorovic, the order settled down in southwestern Bohemia and thanks to their unwavering patronage it created one of the leading monastic houses in the Czech area. After the ruling aristocratic family died off, the logical outcome was that the order, which was entirely adapted to the Otava River basin after nearly two hundred years, bought the secular part of the estate which was transferred from the ownership of the Bavarians to a minor noble Vikéř of Jenišovice under unclear circumstances. This costly financial transaction, which was unprecedented in monastic history until then and represented a major financial burden for the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, made Strakonice an important support for the Catholic party in southwestern Bohemia. Strakonice entered the turbulent years of the 15th century, which were strongly influenced by the events associated with the Hussite revolution and the secularisation of church property in the years 1420-1437, under the administration of general priors as a town strongly inclined to the anti-reform stream. The town of Strakonice survived the turbulent period of the Hussite wars, which threw the Czech lands in a state of war for decades, together with the monastic commendam without major ownership changes even though it was located in the politically exposed area of southwestern Bohemia. The significance of the city in terms of its position in the monastic history increased even more after the Prague convent in Malá Strana was destroyed due to the Prague events of 1419 associated with the Hussite movement targeted mainly against churches and monasteries, and therefore the monastic centre was moved to Strakonice. The local castle, which withstood the 2-week siege of Žižka, became the largest monastic commendam in the Czech kingdom at that moment. The town of Strakonice came from the Hussite wars, the secularization policy of Sigismund of Luxembourg and the capturing of the Catholic aristocracy with the same extent of land which it possessed in the early 15th century, after the estate was united by the monastic knights. Therefore, the Strakonice Johannite commendam formed the economic core of the whole province at the end of the first half of the 15th century and became the richest convent house not only in Bohemia but also throughout the priory. A significant determining factor for the development of the town throughout the 15th century were the persons of general priors in the role of landlords and administrators of the entire estate. Due to their policy, Strakonice, despite being in the very focus of the opponents of Catholicism, became a strong supporter of the Catholic unity in South Bohemia together with the estate of the noble family of the Rosenbergs. Although in the second half of the 15th century representatives, whose aim was to buy out church and monastic property, were leading Strakonice, due to which they were forced to pledge other monastic land, they always tried to spare the South Bohemian monastic estate and leave the centralised Strakoniceland domain untouched.
