Development of Higher Education in China under Deng Xiaoping

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vyšším školstvím v ČLR v období vlády Deng Xiaopinga (1978–1989). V té době se reformuje vzdělávání v reakci na potřebu rozvoje hospodářství podmíněné novým politickým diskurzem. Výzkum této práce spočívá v podobě případové studie, kdy metodou polostrukturovaného rozhovoru je získáván vhled do každodenního života studenta té doby. Srovnáním s kompilací sekundární literatury vysvětlující dobové reálie dochází ke zjištění, v čem se shoduje a v čem se liší čínské vyšší školství z pohledu odborné literatury a člena tehdejší mladé inteligence.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis examines higher education in the PRC during the Deng Xiaoping era (1978–1989). At that time, education was being reformed in response to the need for eco-nomic development conditioned by the new political discourse. The research for this thesis takes the form of a case study, where the method of semi-structured interview is used to gain insight into the daily life of a student at that time. By comparing it with a compilation of secondary literature explaining the realities of the time, it is established in what ways Chinese higher education coincides and differs from the perspective of scholarly literature and a member of the young intelligentsia of the time.
