Web accessibility of major Czech universities

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou přístupnosti webových stránek. Jejím cílem je zanalyzovat weby nejvýznamnějších českých univerzit a vyhodnotit, jakou úroveň přístupnosti svým uživatelům poskytují. Jako základ pro toto hodnocení posloužila metodika WCAG 2.0, která nejlépe odpovídá současným požadavkům na přístupnost. Smyslem teoretické části práce je seznámit čtenáře s problematikou webové přístupnosti. Je zde definována především samotná přístupnost a také skupiny handicapovaných uživatelů Internetu, pro které má dodržování zásad přístupnosti zásadní význam. Dále je zde nastíněna legislativní úprava přístupnosti v České republice a představeny metodiky tvorby přístupných webových stránek. Praktická část práce obsahuje jednotlivé analýzy přístupnosti, popis hodnocených webů a závěrečné shrnutí výsledků testování. Hlavním přínosem práce je objektivní zhodnocení stavu, ve kterém se webové stránky českých univerzit z hlediska přístupnosti nacházejí. Toto zhodnocení může sloužit jako vodítko pro případnou nápravu nedostatků, které se na testovaných webech vyskytují.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis deals with web accessibility issues. Its aim is to analyze web pages of major Czech universities and evaluate the accessibility level they provide to their users. The WCAG 2.0 methodology served as a basis for this evaluation process, because it specifies the most current requirements for accessible websites. The purpose of the theoretical part of the thesis is to acquaint the reader with the web accessibility issues. It contains a definition of accessibility itself and also talks about disabled Internet users, for which the compliance of web accessibility standards is crucial. The theoretical part also outlines the legislative regulation of accessibility in the Czech Republic and presents the accessible web development methodologies. The practical part of the thesis contains the accessibility analysis, a description of the evaluated websites and the final test results summary. The main contribution of this thesis is an objective assessment of the condition, in which the web pages of Czech universities are in terms of accessibility. This assessment can serve as a clue for removing any deficiencies that occur on the tested websites.
