Anotácia:

Práca sa zaoberá drahými kameňmi, ich využitím a reprezentáciami v rane stredovekých religióznych objektoch v latinskom Západe s dôrazom na ôsme a deviate storočie. Zameriava sa na drahé kamene ako médium, ktoré mohlo reprezentovať a stelesniť posvätno, pričom analyzuje objekty ako sú draho zdobené relikviáre, kríže a obaly kníh. Následne sa práca venuje aj reprezentácii drahých kameňov v iných médiách ako boli mozaiky, email, či okenné sklo.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with precious stones, their uses, and representations in the early medieval religious objects of Latin West with particular emphasis on the eighth and ninth centuries. It focuses on the precious stones as a medium that could represent and embody the sacred while analysing objects such as preciously adorned reliquaries, crosses, or book covers. Subsequently, the thesis deals with the representation of precious stones in other media such as mosaics, enamel, and window glass.
