Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on passenger air transport in Europe

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá dopady pandemie COVID-19 na osobní leteckou dopravu v Evropě. Jejím cílem je zjistit, jaké dopady měla pandemie COVID-19 na osobní leteckou dopravu v Evropě, s důrazem na vybrané evropské letecké společnosti - Lufthansa Group, Air France-KLM Group a Ryanair Group. Práce je strukturována do dvou kapitol. První kapitola se obecně zabývá osobní leteckou dopravou a charakteristikou vybraných společností. Druhá kapitola se nejprve věnuje vzniku a vývoji samotného onemocnění a zavedeným opatřením s důrazem na ty, které ovlivňovaly leteckou dopravu. Dále jsou popsány dopady a reakce leteckých společností v průběhu trvání pandemie. V druhé části je provedena analýza na základě výkonnostních ukazatelů – PAX, ASK, RPK a Load Factor. A analýza vybraných finančních ukazatelů. V závěru jsou shrnuty klíčové poznatky celé práce.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on passenger air transport in Europe. Its main aim is to determine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on passenger air transport in Europe on selected European airline companies - Lufthansa Group, Air France-KLM Group, and Ryanair Group. The thesis is structured into two chapters. The first chapter deals generally with air passenger transport and the characteristics of the selected companies. The second chapter of the thesis initially focuses on the origin and development of the disease itself and the implemented measures, with an emphasis on those affecting air transportation. Furthermore, it describes the impacts and responses of airline companies during the pandemic. The second part includes an analysis based on performance indicators - PAX, ASK, RPK and Load Factor. Additionally, a financial indicator analysis is conducted. Finally, the key findings of the entire thesis are summarized.
