"Dearest! I am healthy and I still have hope." Correspondence of Alois Petránek and the World War I experience of soldiers from the Italian front.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá každodenností první světové války z pohledu českých vojáků v Rakousko-Uherské armádě v letech 1914-1918. Práce se soustředí výhradně na etapu italské fronty. Cílem této problematiky je představit fungování rakouské polní pošty a každodenní vztah vojáků k této instituci. V rámci tohoto záběru sestavit vzorovou edici válečné polní korespondence z pramene, který dosud nebyl publikován a to vojáka, jenž sloužil za první světové války na italské frontě. Dále zanalyzovat válečnou každodennost italské fronty a provést analýzu válečného prožitku českých vojáků sloužících na této frontě. Zvolené problémy jsou řešeny pomocí analýzy ego dokumentů, jako jsou například deníky a paměti. Pro sestavení edice je využita metoda textologie. V závěru jsou formulovány jednotlivá zjištění o každodennosti italské fronty v první světové válce a to z pohledu korespondence, stravování, hygieny, ubytování, volnočasových aktivit, pracovních a vojenských povinností. Rovněž zjištění z porovnání a hodnocení prožitků českých vojáků.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the everyday life of the First World War from the point of view of Czech soldiers in the Austro-Hungarian army in the years 1914-1918. The work focuses exclusively on the stage of the Italian front The aim of this issue is to present the functioning of the Austrian field post office and the daily relationship of soldiers to this institution. As part of this shot, compile a model from an edition of wartime field correspondence from a source that has not yet been published, that of a soldier who served on the Italian front during the First World War. Furthermore, to analyze the everyday life of war on the Italian front and to analyze the wartime experience of Czech soldiers serving on this front. Selected problems are solved through the analysis of ego documents such as diaries and memoirs. The textology method is used to compile the edition. In the conclusion, individual findings are formulated about the everyday life of the Italian front in the First World War from the point of view of correspondence, meals, hygiene, accommodation, leisure activities and work and military duties. Also findings from the comparison and evaluation of the experiences of Czech soldiers.
