Nest lining maintenance during incubation in the red-wattled lapwing (Vanellus indicus)

Abstract:

Úprava hnízdní výstelky patří mezi důležité činnosti většiny druhu ptáků během hnízdění. Jedná se o rodičovskou péči související s úpravou vnitřní části ptačího hnízda, která má významný vliv na hnízdní úspěšnost a vyvedení mláďat. Míra této péče může být ovlivněna životní strategií a partnerskými vztahy konkrétních druhů ptáků. Úpravou hnízdní výstelky jsou zajištěny optimální tepelné a vlhkostní podmínky během inkubace pro správný vývoj zárodku. Její úpravou se také zvyšuje ochrana hnízda před parazity a patogeny. V některých případech může také vhodná úprava výstelky snížit riziko predace hnízda. Stav a kvalita hnízdní výstelky u některých ptáků signalizuje životní kondici stavitele hnízda a může tak ovlivnit výběr vhodného sexuální partnera. Péči o výstelku hnízda během inkubace může provádět buď jeden rodič nebo její úpravu zajišťují společně oba dospělí jedinci. Jejich míra úsilí při úpravě výstelky však může být odlišná. Bakalářská práce popisuje souvislosti týkající se úpravy hnízdní výstelky ptáků během inkubace.

Abstract:

The preparation of the nest lining is among the important activities of most species of birds during nesting. This is parental care related to the modification of the inner part of the bird's nest, which has a significant effect on the success of the nest and the hatching of young. The level of this care can be influenced by the life strategy and partner relationships of specific bird species. By adjusting the nest lining, optimal thermal and humidity conditions are ensured during incubation for the correct development of the embryo. Its modification also increases the protection of the nest against parasites and pathogens. In some cases, appropriate litter treatment can also reduce the risk of nest predation. The condition and quality of the nest lining in some birds signals the life condition of the nest builder and can thus influence the choice of a suitable sexual partner. Care of the nest lining during incubation can be carried out either by one parent or by both adults together. However, their level of effort in adjusting the lining may be different. This bachelor's thesis describes the facts related to the modification of nest lining of birds.
