Ceremonies at the French court under the reign of John II the Good through perspective of the Grandes Chroniques de France

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o ceremoniích v době vlády Jana II. Dobrého, které svou unikátní perspektivou zachytil soubor Velkých francouzských kronik. Pomocí komparace s ceremoniálními záznamy posledních Kapetovců a se zápisy z vlád Janova předchůdce a následovníka na francouzskému trůně se pokouší vytvořit ideální typy těchto ceremonií. Na pozadí analýz korunovace, slavnostních vjezdů, svatebních aliancí a královského pohřbu dále sleduje jednotící myšlenku zvýšeného důrazu kladeného na ceremonie v rámci Velkých francouzských kronik.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis deals with ceremonies under the reign of John II the Good which depict the Grandes Chroniques de France in their characteristic point of view. It attempts to create ideal types of these ceremonies by means of comparation with the ceremonial records of the late Capetians and these from the reign of John’s predecessor and successor at the French throne. Further, it follows the unifying idea of the increased accent laid on the ceremonies within the Grandes Chroniques de France against the backdrop of the analyses of the coronation, royal entries, wedding alliances and royal funeral.
