Automobile transport and small vertebrate mortality

Abstract:

The first part of thesis consists of literature research dedicated to the issue of negative effects of car traffic on wildlife. These include mainly landscape fragmentation associated with a barrier effect or disturbance of surrounding environment of road communication. Another issue which has been solved is the mortality of small vertebrates and relevant part is also given to aspects which cause it. In the second part, the main aim was to process data obtained from field monitoring of mortality of small vertebrates, which ran from April to November 2012 at three different localities of roads with diverse habitat (field - forest, field - field, forest - forest) in South Moravia. Individual locations were divided into main and reference sections, where several aspects on mortality were tested. During eight months of field monitoring seventy-one carcasses belonging to three classes of vertebrates were found on selected road sections, with total length of 1, 5 km. Most frequently killed species were: common vole (Microtus arvalis), yellow-necked mouse (Apodemus flavicolis), common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) and great tit (Parus major). The major aspect that influences the mortality of small vertebrates is type of habitat in surrounding communication. The most carcasses were found at the ecotone field - forest, but there was recorded the lowest traffic intensity and so the traffic has no significant effect on direct mortality. Significant differences were found in between individual controls of monitoring and also between main and reference sections of localities and mortality of animals was the highest on main sections.

Abstract:

Prvú časť bakalárskej práce tvorí literárna rešerš, ktorá sa venuje negatívnym vplyvom automobilovej dopravy na voľne žijúce živočíchy. Medzi ne patrí hlavne fragmentácia krajiny, s ňou spojený bariérový efekt alebo disturbancia okolitého prostredia cestnej komunikácie. Ďalšou riešenou problematikou je mortalita drobných stavovcov a podstatná časť je venovaná tiež aspektom, ktoré ju spôsobujú. V druhej časti bolo hlavným cieľom spracovať získané údaje z terénneho monitoringu mortality drobných stavovcov, ktorý prebiehal od apríla do novembra 2012 na troch biotopovo odlišných lokalitách cestných komunikácií (pole - les, pole - pole, les - les) v Juhomoravskom kraji. Jednotlivé lokality boli rozdelené na hlavný a referenčný úsek, na ktorých sa testoval vplyv vybraných aspektov na mortalitu. Počas ôsmich mesiacov terénneho monitoringu bolo na vybraných cestných úsekoch lokalít, v celkovej dĺžke 1, 5 km, nájdených 71 kadáverov patriacich do troch tried stavovcov. Medzi najčastejšie zrážané druhy patrili: hraboš poľný (Microtus arvalis), ryšavka žltohrdlá (Apodemus flavicolis), bažant poľovný (Phasianus colchicus) a sýkorka veľká (Parus major). Najhlavnejší aspekt, ktorý vplýva na mortalitu drobných stavovcov, bol v tejto práci typ biotopu okolia cestnej komunikácie. Najviac kadáverov bolo nájdených na ekotónovom úseku pole - les, kde však bola zaznamenaná najnižšia intenzita dopravy, a tak sa v tejto práci nepotvrdil jej významný vplyv na priamu mortalitu. Signifikantné rozdiely boli nájdené aj medzi jednotlivými kontrolami monitoringu a taktiež medzi hlavnými a referenčnými úsekmi lokalít, pričom živočíchy hynuli častejšie na tých hlavných.
