Evolution of Personal Pronouns from Old French to the Present

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the evolution of personal pronouns from Old French to the present. The main focus will be on their position in various sentence structures. Furthermore, the thesis will examine whether the personal pronouns expressing the subject have always been an integral part of the syntax. The issue of personal pronouns will be considered primarily from a diachronic point of view and on morpho-syntactic level. As for the pragmatic point of view, the factors influencing the linguistic changes will be determined. It will also be discussed whether these changes could have been expected and whether some more changes can be anticipated in the future. This thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part a general explanation of the French pronouns is given. Apart from that, this part comments on the linguistic situation in ancient times, when the French language was being formed, and finally, the general characteristics of the personal pronouns with their emphasis on the form and position in the historical development of French is presented. In the practical part specific examples for each developmental period are given and commented on. In conclusion, the thesis summarizes how the historical context of each period is reflected in the development of the personal pronouns and the language in general; the final part also tries to estimate their future development.

Abstract:

V této práci se budeme zabývat vývojem osobních zájmen ze staré francouzštiny až po současnost. Zaměříme se na jejich postavení v různých větných strukturách. Dále pak budeme pozorovat, zda osobní zájmena vyjadřující podmět byla vždy nedílnou součástí větné skladby. Problematiku osobních zájmen budeme posuzovat především z hlediska diachronního a na morfo-syntaktické úrovni. Co se týče hlediska pragmatického, pokusíme se zjistit, jaké faktory ovlivňují dané lingvistické změny, zda se tyto změny daly očekávat a zda můžeme v budoucnu ještě nějaké další předpokládat. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. V části teoretické podáme všeobecný výklad o francouzských zájmenech, uvedeme lingvistickou situaci v nejstarších dobách, kdy se francouzský jazyk formoval, a nakonec uvedeme všeobecnou charakteristiku osobních zájmen s důrazem na jejich formu a postavení v průběhu historického vývoje francouzštiny. V části praktické pak uvedeme konkrétní příklady k jednotlivým vývojovým obdobím a okomentujeme je. Na závěr shrneme, jak se historický kontext jednotlivých období odráží ve vývoji osobních zájemen a jazyka všeobecně; pokusíme se také odhadnout jejich příští vývoj.
