The modern reception of the Orendel

Abstract:

This diploma thesis aims to map the development of the literary reception of the Old German epic Orendel, written most likely in the 12th century by an unknown author, and especially at the beginning of the 21st century. In the first part of the work, attention is paid to all the preserved sources of the Orendel epic, with the fact that the original manuscript found in 1477 was destroyed by fire in 1870. In the second part of the work, the inclusion of the epic, and the associated issues, into the recognized literary genre Spielmannsdichtung, from which, however, science has been deflecting since the 1970s. In the third part, the work deals with the symbolism of the epic and its interpretation for contemporary society. In the fourth part, the thesis deals with the literary reception itself, its evaluation and impact on the 21st century. Following this, the work seeks new ways and methods to integrate the epic into contemporary society and what benefit the epic has for us. The thesis is written in German.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl zmapovat vývoj literární recepce staroněmeckého eposu Orendel sepsaný nejspíše ve 12. století neznámým autorem, a to zejména na počátku 21. století. V první části práce je pozornost věnována všem dochovaným pramenům eposu Orendel, s tím že originál rukopisu nalezený roku 1477 byl zničen požárem roku 1870. V druhé části práce sleduje zařazení eposu, a s tím spojenou problematiku, do uznávaného literárního žánru Spielmannsdichtung, od kterého se však věda od 70. let 20. století odklání. V třetí části se práce zabývá symbolikou eposu a její interpretací na současnou společnost. Ve čtvrté části se pak diplomová práce zabývá samotnou literární recepcí, jejím zhodnocením a dopadem na 21. století. V návaznosti na to hledá práce nové cesty a metody, jak epos do současné společnosti začlenit a jaký přínos epos pro nás má. Práce je vypracována v německém jazyce.
