Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá dvomi otázkami, ktoré sa vzťahujú k téme manželstva a nezosobášeného súžitia. Po prvé, skúma ako prechod do nezosobášeného súžitia a manželstva závisí na postojoch jedinca k manželstvu, nezosobášenému súžitiu, rozvodu, materstvu slobodných žien, a k genderovým roliam. Po druhé, táto práca hľadá odpoveď na otázku, či existujú rozdiely vo vplyve postojov na prechod do manželstva alebo nezosobášeného súžitia v rôznych kultúrnych kontextoch. Tieto výskumné otázky stavajú na štúdiách, ktoré sa venujú medzinárodným rozdielom vo výskyte nezosobášených súžití, ich typmi a významami, ako aj výskumami postojov vo vzťahu k nezosobášenému spolužitiu a manželstvu. Hlavná hypotéza tvrdí, že efekt postojov na formovanie partnerských zväzkov závisí na charaktere nezosobášených súžití v danej krajine. Očakávame, že efekt postojov na výber zväzku bude silnejší v krajinách kde sú nezosobášené súžitia viac rozšírené a dokonca môžu byť považované za alternatívu k manželstvu (väčšinou západoeurópske krajiny). Hypotézy sú testované na GGP (Generations and Gender Programme) panelových dátach v siedmych krajinách: Bulharsko, Česká republika, Francúzsko, Gruzínsko, Holandsko, Maďarsko a Nemecko. Výsledky analýzy ukázali, že postoje k rodinným otázkam majú vplyv na výber zväzku – čím tradičnejšie postoje k manželstvu a nezosobášenému súžitiu, tým väčšia šanca na vstup do manželstva v porovnaní k nezosobášeným súžitím. Výsledky tiež podporili hypotézu, že vplyv postojov je silnejší v západoeurópskych ako centrálnych alebo východoeurópskych krajinách.

Abstract:

This thesis addresses two questions that are related to the study of marriage and unmarried cohabitation. First, this thesis aim to explore, how transitions to unmarried cohabitation and marriage depend on the individual attitudes towards marriage, cohabitation, divorce, single motherhood and gender roles, and second, this thesis searches an answer to the question whether there is a difference in the attitudes influence on these transitions in different cultural contexts. These research questions built on the studies which address cross-national differences in the prevalence of cohabitation, cohabitation types and meaning and research on attitudes and their relation to unmarried cohabitation and marriage. The main hypothesis argues that the effect of attitudes on union formation is dependent on the character of cohabitating unions in a country. We expect that the attitudes will have stronger effect on the union choice in countries where cohabitation is better established and can be even treated as an alternative to marriage (mostly Western European countries). The hypotheses are tested on the GGP (Generations and Gender Programme) panel data, for seven countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary and The Netherlands. The results show that the connection between family attitudes and transition to marriage or cohabitation exists – the more traditional attitudes towards marriage and cohabitation the higher the odds of entering marriage rather than cohabitation. The results also support the hypothesis that the influence of attitudes is stronger in Western European than Central or Eastern European countries.
