Zdravotničtí záchranáři se v rámci přednemocniční neodkladné péče setkávají s pacienty, kteří mají zhoršený zdravotní stav spojený s dýchacími potížemi. Dýchání stejně jako stav vědomí a krevní oběh, patří mezi základní životní funkce.
