Holocene development of acidic mire in the Inner Western Carpathians reconstructed with the help of testate amoebae analysis

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá rekonstrukcí vývoje rašeliniště Hybkaňa za pomoci analýzy fosilních krytenek. Toto rašeliniště se nachází ve Vihorlatských vrších v Západních Karpatech. Je to staré izolované rašeliniště v pohoří strmě stoupajícím z teplé Panonské nížiny, kde lze očekávat odlišný vývoj ve srovnání s často zkoumanými boreálními a horskými rašeliništi. Celkem jsem zpracovala 37 vzorků z rašelinného profilu, ve kterých jsem určila 50 taxonů krytenek. Vzorky reprezentovaly hloubku rašeliny od 5 cm do 307 cm a stáří od 3760 kalibrovaných let BP do současnosti. Porovnáním fosilních vzorků a recentních dat o ekologii krytenek byla získána rekonstrukce vývoje dvou proměnných přírodního prostředí (výšky hladiny vody a pH), které jsou pro vývoj rašeliniště zásadní. Pomocí klastrovací analýzy byl profil rozdělen na tři zóny. Zónu 1 – minerotrofní fázi – charakterizovaly vlhkomilné krytenky Centropyxis aculeata, C. aerophila typ, Nebela collaris typ a Hyalosphenia papilio. Na jejím konci byl zaznamenán přechod od minerotrofní k ombrotrofní fázi. Ombrotrofní fáze (zóna 2) byla charakteristická střídáním krátkých suchých a vlhkých fází. Vlhkou periodu indikovaly Archerella flavum, Hyalosphenia papilio a Amphitrema wrightianum a suchou Trinema lineare, Cyclopyxis eurystoma typ a Difflugia pulex typ. V zóně 3 se výrazně projevuje antropogenní vliv, kdy bylo rašeliniště zprvu přeplaveno po přehrazení, a poté na něm hladina vody naopak poklesla. Diagnostické taxony zóny 3 jsou Nebela militaris, N. tincta typ, Trinema lineare, Cyclopyxis eurystoma typ a Difflugia pulex typ.

Abstract:

In this thesis a development of the peatland Hybkaňa was reconstructed with the help of testate amoebae analysis. This peatland is situated in the Vihorlat Mountains in the Western Carpathians. It is an old, isolated peatland in the mountain summit steeply raising from the Pannonian Basin. It therefore represents an opportunity to study development of a peatland outside the boreal zone or mountains, where peatlands have been usually studied. Altogether 37 samples were processed and 50 taxa of testate amoebae were identified in the peatland core. The samples represented the deep from 5 to 307 cm and age from 3760 cal yrs BP to the recent. A reconstruction of two environmental variables (water table depth and pH) was done by a comparison of fossil data with recent data of testate amoebae ecology (i.e., transfer function). These variables are necessary for understanding the development of peatlands. Cluster analysis was used to classify the samples into three zones. Zone 1 – minerotrophic phase – was characterized by hydrophilic testate amoebae Centropyxis aculeata, C. aerophila type, Nebela collaris type and Hyalosphenia papilio. After this phase a shift from minerotrophic to ombrotrophic conditions was recorded (the fen-bog transition). The ombrotrophic phase (zone 2) was characterised by fluctuating dry and wet conditions in the short tome. The wet conditions were indicated by Archerella flavum, Hyalosphenia papilio and Amphitrema wrightianum, while dry conditions by Trinema lineare, Cyclopyxis eurystoma type and Difflugia pulex type. The zone 3 corresponds to the phase when peatland was affected by humans. The diagnostic taxa of this zone were Nebela militaris, N. tincta type, Trinema lineare, Cyclopyxis eurystoma type and Difflugia pulex type.
