Social isolation of women on maternity and parental leave

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo zmapovat problematiku sociální izolace u žen na mateřské a rodičovské dovolené. Souvislosti mezi sociální izolací, osamělostí, depresí a úrovní životní spokojenosti žen na mateřské a rodičovské dovolené. Data byla získána formou online dotazníku, výzkumný soubor tvořilo 248 respondentů (187 pobírající rodičovský příspěvek a 61 na mateřské dovolené) ve věkovém rozmezí 20 – 45 let. K získání dat byl použit dotazník vlastní konstrukce, zjišťující základní demografické údaje a výskyt sociální izolace, dále škála zjišťující depresi BDI-II, škála osamělosti a škála životní spokojenosti. K analýze dat bylo použito popisné statistiky a neparametrických testů. Potvrzen byl vztah mezi sociální izolací, osamělostí, depresí a životní spokojeností. Škála osamělosti UCLA byla testována společně s demografickými údaji, hledán byl statisticky významný vztah. Ten byl u všech testovaných hypotéz natolik málo průkazný, že byl zamítnut. Osamělost tedy není určující pro žádnou konkrétní skupinu z testovaného vzorku. Závěr práce je diskutován v kontextu předcházejících zjištění a teorie spolu s limity studie a náměty pro další výzkumy.

Abstract:

The aim of the work was to map the issue of social isolation for women on maternity and parental leave. Relationships between social isolation, loneliness, depression and the level of life satisfaction of women on maternity and parental leave. The data were obtained in the form of an online questionnaire, the research group consisted of 248 respondents (187 receiving parental allowance and 61 on maternity leave) in the age range of 20 - 45 years. A self-designed questionnaire was used to obtain the data, measuring basic demographic data and the incidence of social isolation, as well as the BDI-II depression scale, the loneliness scale and the life satisfaction scale. Descriptive statistics and nonparametric tests were used to analyze the data. The relationship between social isolation, loneliness, depression and life satisfaction was confirmed. The UCLA loneliness scale was tested together with demographic data, a statistically significant relationship was sought. It was so inconclusive for all tested hypotheses therefore it was rejected. Thus, loneliness is not decisive for any particular group of the test sample. The conclusion of the thesis is discussed in the context of previous findings and theories, along with the limits of the study and suggestions for further research.
