University students as an elite athletes

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of university students combining their higher education with top-level sporting activities. It is based on the concept of lifelong learning that considers sport as a form of leisure activity containing elements of non-formal education. The theoretical part of this thesis defines basic terms such as physical activity or sport and gradually characterizes fundamental aspects of sport at the highest level. Subsequently, it contrasts the role of a university student and the role of an elite athlete, focuses on the issue of harmonization of these two roles and describes various forms of university support. The empirical part of the thesis consists of a qualitative survey that was conducted as a series of nine semi-structured interviews. The objective of the survey was to analyze the problem of how individual students pursue sporting activities during their study.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá témou vykonávania vrcholového športu vysokoškolských študentov. Vychádza z konceptu celoživotného učenia, ktorý športovú činnosť považuje za formu záujmovej aktivity obsahujúcu vzdelávacie prvky neformálneho charakteru. Teoretická časť práce definuje pojmy ako pohyb, šport a postupne charakterizuje základné aspekty vrcholového športu. Následne stavia do kontrastu rolu vysokoškolského študenta a rolu vrcholového športovca, zameriava sa na problematiku zosúlaďovania týchto dvoch rolí a popisuje formy univerzitnej podpory športu. Empirická časť práce pozostáva z kvalitatívneho výskumu, ktorý bol realizovaný prostredníctvom deviatich pološtrukturovaných rozhovorov. Ich hĺbkovou analýzou bolo cieľom odpovedať na otázku, ako vysokoškolskí študenti realizujú vrcholový šport počas ich štúdia na vysokej škole.
