The beginning of the paper deals with the definition of postmodernism in the context of English literature of the 2nd half of the 20th century. It mentions theoretical postulates of postmodern literature (Eco, Barthes, deconstruction of the text). Práce se v úvodní části bude věnovat definici a charakteristice postmodernismu v kontextu anglické literatury 2. poloviny 20. století. V tomto smyslu zmíní teoretické postuláty postmoderní literatury (Eco, Barthes, dekonstrukce textu) a zaměří se na pojetí intertextuality a vyprávěcích postupů ve vybraných románech Johna Fowlese (The French Lieutenant´s Woman, Mantissa, The Magus).
