Spatial Imagery and Practices of Young Believers in Brno

Abstract:

Pokles formální religiozity a její současný stav v ČR je považován za výsledek dlouhodobého působení modernizačních procesů a násilné sekularizace v období komunistického režimu. Snížení podílu osob hlásících se k tradičním církvím byl však po roce 1989 doprovázen obnovou zájmu o duchovno, ale i růstem vlivu nových, v českém prostředí netradičních církví. Tato práce zkoumá procesy transformace religiozity očima mladých věřících v Brně a zaměřuje se na jejich prostorové představy (abstraktní i konkrétní prostory víry, povědomí o jiných církvích a náboženských skupinách) a prostorové praktiky (prostory evangelizace, místa setkávání a podobně). K dosažení vytčených cílů je využito postupů kvalitativního výzkumu, který vychází z pilotního předvýzkumu a prostřednictvím třídění, kódování, analýzy a interpretace dat směřuje k dílčím závěrům. Výzkum se zakládá na rozhovorech s brněnskými katolíky, příslušníky protestantských směrů (Českobratrská církev evangelická, Křesťanská společenství, Slovo života), adventisty Sedmého dne a pro srovnání i s vyznavači tzv. alternativní religiozity.

Abstract:

The decline of formal religiosity and its current state in CR is usually considered a result of long-range influence of modernization processes and forced secularization in the period of the Communist regime. Nevertheless, the decrease in the share of believers of the traditional churches was accompanied by the restoration of the interest towards the spiritual life after 1989 and the growth of new, in Czech context untraditional churches. This thesis explores the shifts in the religiosity from the point of view of the young believers in Brno and focuses on their spatial imagery (abstract and concrete spaces of faith, the awareness about other churches and religious groups) and spatial practices (spaces of the evangelization, places of meeting etc.). The qualitative research advances are applied to reach the aims starting with the pilot study and proceeding with the classification, coding, analysis and interpretation of the data. The research is based on the interviews with young Catholic believers, adherents of Protestant churches (Czech Brethren, Christian Communities, Word of Life), Seventh Day Adventists and with the young people who belong to the so called alternative religiosity.
