The Open University Concept: Realization in Selected EU Countries

Abstract:

V dnešní rychle se měnící společnosti je důležité umět se změnám přizpůsobovat. K tomu je zapotřebí neustále obnovovat své dosavadní znalosti a dovednosti, resp. neustále se vzdělávat. Tento trend podporuje koncept celoživotního učení zdůrazňující potřebnost učit se během celého života pro dosažení zaměstnatelnosti, i osobního rozvoje. V naplňování potřeby celoživotního učení pak hraje významnou roli vzdělávání dospělých, na které je třeba se zaměřovat. Jednou z nejefektivnějších forem vzdělávání dospělých je otevřené distanční vzdělávání, realizované prostřednictvím otevřených univerzit. Hlavním cílem diplomové práce tedy je popsat a srovnat realizace konceptu otevřené univerzity ve vybraných zemích Evropské unie. Diplomová práce má charakter srovnávací studie, jež usiluje o nalezení shod, podobností a rozdílů v realizaci otevřeného distančního vzdělávání na otevřených univerzitách. Průkopníkem této formy vzdělávání je britská Open University. Ta je srovnávána s univerzitami ve Španělsku a Německu – Universidad Nacional del Educación a Distancia a FernUniversität. Na základě stanovených kritérií jsou zjištěny podobnosti v základních parametrech, jež definují distančně vzdělávací univerzitu. Další kritéria pak reflektují existující rozdíly mezi megauniverzitami a dalšími distančně vzdělávacími univerzitami, které nedosahují počtu 100 000 zapsaných studentů v akademickém roce.

Abstract:

In contemporary rapidly changing society, it is important to be able to adapt to changes. This requires constantly renew existing knowledge and skills, respectively constantly to educate. This trend supports the concept of lifelong learning, emphasizing the need to learn throughout life to achieve employability and personal development. An important role in fulfilling the need for lifelong learning plays adult education , which is necessary to focus. One of the most effective forms of adult education is open distance learning, implemented through open universities. Therefore, the main aim of the dissertation is to describe and compare the implementation of the concept of the Open University in respective European Union countries. The diploma thesis has the character of a comparative study, which seeks to find compliance, similarities and differences in the implementation of open distance learning on Open University. British Open University has pioneered this form of education. This is compared with open universities in Spain and Germany - Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia and Fernuniversität. On the basis of established criteria they are detected similarities in the basic parameters that define the distance learning university. Other criteria then reflect differences between megauniversities and other distance learning universities, which do not reach the number of 100 000 students enrolled in the academic year.
