Electronic reconstruction and comparison of 17th century English calligraphers’ penmanship

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je rekonstrukce ručně psaného písma z vybrané předlohy pocházející ze 17. století z Anglie a následně analýza pěti různých historických předloh z té doby. V úvodu práce se věnuji stručnému popsání vývoje kursivních gotických písem a jejich používání v Anglii. Dále pak pracuji na rekonstrukci písmové předlohy pocházející z období vrcholu písem gotického typu a porovnání nástrojů a konstrukcí používaných při psaní textu.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is reconstruction of historical penmanship from 17th century from England and the analysis of five different historical texts from the same historical period. The preamble of my thesis briefly describes the evolution of cursive gothic penmanship and its using in England. The next stages of my bachelor’s thesis are about electronic reconstruction of the historical text written in the final era of the cursive gothic penmanship and comparison of the instrument implementations used in writing.
