The issue of education of convicted prisoners

Abstract:

Tato bakalářské práce je orientována na problematiku vzdělávání odsouzených ve výkonu trestu odnětí svobody. Vzdělávání odsouzených chápeme nejen z pohledu Vězeňské služby, ale také společnosti, jako jednu z možností zvýšit cenu odsouzeného na trhu práce po jeho propuštění a tím eliminovat riziko selhání - recidivy. Z penitenciární praxe ale víme, že vzdělávat odsouzené je velice problematické nejen z pohledu jejich motivace, ale též z pohledu Vězeňské služby ČR, která má díky nedostatku odborného personálu značně omezené vzdělávací možnosti. Cíl této práce je zaměřen na dvě oblasti: 1. Analýza vzdělávacího systému ve Vězeňské službě České republiky, 2. Zmapování zájmu odsouzených doplnit si vzdělávání či se dál vzdělávat v průběhu výkonu trestu odnětí svobody. Výzkumné šetření bude provedeno ve třech velkých věznicích - Všehrdy, Bělušice a Vinařice. V teoretické části bude popsán současný vzdělávací systém, jeho limity a směřování, včetně podílu odsouzeného a odborného personálu na této důležité oblasti. Praktická část bude analyzovat současný stav a podmínky pro vzdělávání, včetně výzkumného šetření, které bude realizováno přímo mezi odsouzenými. V závěru této práce předložíme výsledky dotazníkového šetření, včetně doporučení pro Vězeňskou službu České republiky.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of education of convicted prisoners. We understand the education of prisoners not only from the point of view of the Prison Service but also of society as one of the possibilities to increase the price of the convicted on the labor market after his dismissal, thus eliminating the risk of failure - recidivism. However, we know from penitentiary practice that educating the convicted is very problematic not only from the point of view of their motivation but also from the point of view of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic which, due to lack of professional staff, has very limited educational opportunities. The aim of this work is focused on two areas: 1. Analysis of the education system in the Prison Service of the Czech Republic, 2. What percentage of convicted persons are interested in supplementing education or continuing education during the execution of imprisonment. The research will be carried out in three large prisons - Všehrdy, Bělušice and Vinařice. The theoretical part will describe the current education system, its limits and direction, including the share of personality of convicted and professional personnel in this important area. The practical part will analyze the current state and conditions for education, including a research survey that will be conducted directly among the convicts. In conclusion, this paper will contain the results of the questionnaire survey, including recommendations for the Prison Service of the Czech Republic.
