Wooden churches in Těšínsko and their cultural-historical context

Abstract:

Dizertační práce se věnuje kulturně-historickým vlivům na podobu a stavební proměny dřevěných kostelů na Těšínsku a v sousedících oblastech severovýchodní Moravy. Těšínsko je v rámci České republiky specifickou oblastí, kde se dochoval největší počet dřevěných kostelů. Souvisí to zejména s polohou regionu, který byl poměrně pozdě osidlován, a jeho sociálním zázemím. Dřevo zde bylo vždy přirozeným a snadno dostupným stavebním materiálem. Podobu zdejších dřevěných kostelů však ovlivnila i konfesní situace, neboť od poloviny 16. století přešlo zdejší obyvatelstvo k protestantské víře a silný vliv protestantismu se zde udržel až do vydání Tolerančního patentu. Dalším důležitým aspektem ve vývoji dřevěných kostelů bylo znovuobjevení lidové kultury a hledání národního stylu v 2. polovině 19. století. Na základě těchto aspektů se dizertační práce pokouší definovat typ dřevěných kostelů na Těšínsku a sledovat společné rysy s dřevěnými kostely v okolních regionech.

Abstract:

The dissertation deals with cultural and historical influences on the form and construction changes of wooden churches in the Těšín Region and the neighboring regions of northeastern Moravia. Těšínn Region is a specific area within the Czech Republic where the largest number of wooden churches is preserved. This is mainly related to the location of the relatively late settled region and its social background. Wood has always been a natural and easily accessible building material. However, the situation of local wooden churches was also influenced by the confessional situation, since the middle of the 16th century the local population passed to the Protestant faith and the strong influence of Protestantism remained here until the issue of the Tolerant Patent. Another important aspect in the development of wooden churches was the rediscovery of folk culture and the search for a national style in the second half of the 19th century. On the basis of these aspects, the dissertation attempts to define the type of wooden churches in the Těšín region and to follow common features with wooden churches in the surrounding regions.
