Kríza je široký pojem a zahŕňa viaceré typy ekonomických alebo finančných kríz. Okrem bankových kríz, ktoré popisujú problémy bankového sektora, systematických finančných kríz, ktoré sa týkajú problémov na finančných trhoch a dlhových kríz, ktoré rozoberajú stav, keď ekonomika nie je schopná splácať svoje dlhy, sa veľká pozornosť venuje aj menovým krízam.
