The Foundation of the Monastery in Pustiměř

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se snaží vnést nový pohled na založení ženského benediktinského kláštera v Pustiměři, a to pohledem toho, že se první abatyší stala poslední žijící Přemyslovna. Klášter byl pak také hojně podporován jejími příbuznými, zakladatelem a olomouckým biskupem Janem Volkem a moravským markrabětem Karlem Lucemburským. Práce obsahuje také kapitoly o dějinách oblasti před vznikem kláštera a shrnuje ve zkratce vývoj benediktinského řádu v českých zemích. Velká pozornost je věnována samotnému aktu založení a tomu, jak korespondovalo s domácí zakladaelskou praxí, a osobě zakladatele kláštera Jana Volka. Práce dále sleduje vývoj klášterního majetku i obdržených výsad a exempcí od založení roku 1340 až po rok 1351, kdy fundátor kláštera umírá.

Abstract:

This Bachelor’s thesis is going to bring a new perspective on foundation of a women’s Benedictine monastery in Pustiměř. The first abbess of this monastery was the last living woman of the Přemyslid dynasty. The monastery was highly supported by her relatives - the founder and the Bishop of Olomouc Jan Volek and the Margrave of Moravia Karel Lucemburský. The thesis is also concerning the history of the area of Pustiměř before the establishment of the monastery and briefly summarizes the development of the Benedictine Order in the Czech lands. The work focuses especially on the act of foundation and the way it corresponded with the home experience of foundation. The attention is also devoted to the character of Jan Volek, the founder of the monastery. The thesis describes the development of the property of the monastery and the received privileges and exemptions from its foundation in 1340 to 1351, when the founder of the monastery dies.
