Understanding the concept of contour line in the classroom and fieldwork settings: a quasi-experiment

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem terénní výuky a konceptuálním porozumění. Hlavním cílem této práce je srovnání terénní výuky a běžné výuky ve třídě z hlediska konceptuální změny v tématu vrstevnice na prvním stupni základní školy. Výzkum se zabývá i otázkou, zda má terénní výuka větší vliv na konceptuální porozumění z dlouhodobějšího hlediska než běžná výuka ve třídě. V literární rešerši jsou popsány dosavadní výzkumy a teoretické poznání zabývající se terénní výukou a konceptuální změnou. Pro získání potřebných dat byl na prvním stupni základní školy, konkrétně ve 4. třídě, proveden kvaziexperiment, při kterém jedna polovina třídy podstoupila na téma vrstevnice terénní výuku a druhá polovina se zúčastnila na stejné téma běžné výuky ve třídě. Data získaná z pretestu, posttestu a retenčního testu byla vyhodnocena na základě statistické metody analýzy rozptylu (ANOVA). Výsledky prokázaly, že během terénní výuky došlo ke konceptuální změně na vyšší úrovni než ve třídě, a to i z dlouhodobějšího hlediska.

Abstract:

This master's thesis focuses on the topic of fieldwork and conceptual understanding. The main objective of this study is to compare fieldwork with traditional classroom-based learning in terms of conceptual change related to contour lines at the elementary school level. The research also investigates whether fieldwork has a greater impact on long-term conceptual understanding compared to traditional classroom-based learning. The literature review provides an overview of existing research and theoretical knowledge related to fieldwork and conceptual change. To obtain the necessary data, a quasi-experiment was conducted at the elementary school level, specifically in the 4th grade, where half of the class underwent fieldwork on the topic of contour lines, while the other half participated in traditional classroom-based learning on the same topic. The data collected from the pre-tests, post-tests, and retention tests were analysed using the analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical method. The results demonstrated that fieldwork led to higher-level conceptual change compared to classroom-based learning, even in the long term.
