Sociology of tourism and collective identities construction in the world of late modernity

Abstract:

Cílem zamýšlené bakalářské práce je prozkoumat platnost teze Zygmunta Baumana, že v době tzv. tekuté modernity ztrácejí kolektivní identity svou samozřejmost a že se jejich produkce a reprodukce stává nesnadným úkolem. Tato platnost bude prozkoumána v rámci dílčí případové studie týkající se vztahu mezi turismem a národními či areálovými autoidentifikacemi, tedy kolektivními identitami v subjektivním smyslu, vnímanými a uznávanými jejich nositeli, tj. obrazy vlastní kolektivní příslušnosti. Ve vstupní části práce bude objasněna historie turismu a s ní případné rozdíly mezi důvody, které vedly lidi k cestování za účelem turistiky dříve a dnes. Budou zde dále definovány takové pojmy jako turismus, turista a cestovní ruch. Zamýšlený kvalitativní výzkum má přinést odpověď na otázku, zda je nutným důsledkem globalizovaného turismu střet s "cizím" ve smyslu, jak mu rozumí A. Schütz, a zdali takové střetávání v každé situaci problematizuje kategorii "vlastního". Na základě provedeného výzkumu tak bude zodpovězena otázka, jestli vede turismus ve všech svých podobách ke střetu s "cizím" a k reflexi či dokonce problematizaci "vlastního". Data budou získávána prostřednictvím řízeného rozhovoru a interpretována prostřednictvím narativní analýzy.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine the validity of Zygmunt Bauman thesis, which states that at the time of liquid modernity, collective identities lose their obviousness and their production and reproduction becomes a difficult task. This validity will be examined in the context of a partial case study concerning the relationship between tourism and the national or areal self-identifications, thus, collective identities in a subjective sense, perceived and recognized by their bearers, images of self-collective affiliation. The first part of the thesis will clarify history of the tourism and the possible differences between reasons, which led people to travelling for the purpose of the tourism earlier and today. Further in will be defined terms such as tourism, tourist and tourist industry. Qualitative research is intended to bring an answer to whether the globalized tourism conflict with the "alien", as A. Schütz understands it, is inevitable and if such collisions in every situation problematize the category of "self". Based on the performed research there will be an answer to the question, if the tourism in all its forms leads to a conflict with the "alien" and to the reflection or even problematisation of "self". Data will be collected through a guided interview and interpreted through a narrative analysis.
