Alternative methods in reinsurance of insurance companies, their potential and development up to the present time

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá specifickou oblastí zajištění pojišťoven – alternativním přenosem rizik. Alternativní způsoby zajištění v sobě kombinují prvky tzv. „klasického“ zajištění a nástroje finančních a kapitálových trhů. Práce charakterizuje formy a typy klasického zajištění, hlavní nositele rizik v alternativním přenosu rizik a jednotlivé alternativní metody zajištění. Podrobně je zpracována tématika zajištění katastrofických rizik pomocí katastrofických dluhopisů jako jedné z forem sekuritizace pojistných rizik. Je doplněna konkrétním příkladem emise katastrofického dluhopisu zajišťovnou Munich Re. Podstatná část práce je věnována vývojovým trendům v oblasti katastrofických dluhopisů především v kontextu současné finanční a hospodářské krize.

Abstract:

This diploma work concerns specific field of reinsurance of insurance companies – alternative risk transfer. Alternative methods of reinsurance combine elements of so called “classical” reinsurance and instruments of financial and capital markets. This work describes forms and types of classical reinsurance, main risk bearers in alternative risk transfer and individual alternative methods of reinsurance. Reinsurance by the means of catastrophe bonds as one form of securitization is elaborated in detail. It is completed by the example of catastrophe bond issued by Munich Re. Substantial part of this work is dedicated to the trends in the field of catastrophic bonds in the context of current financial and economic crisis.
