What are you laughing at? Humor in Youth Literature in three Latin American youth novels

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to present children's and youth literature of Latin America. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part I deal with the definition of children's literature and its history and present in Latin America. I also deal with the classification, topics and presentation of three children's books written by South American authors, which I later analyse. In the practical part I deal with humour and its types. Later, I apply the classification of humour to individual excerpts from three children's books in the analysis. The aim of the analysis is to describe the purpose of humour and to determine what rhetorical devices are used.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je představit literaturu latinské Ameriky pro děti a mládež. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, a to na teoretickou a praktickou část. V teoretické části se věnuji definici dětské literatury a také její historii a současnosti v Latinské Americe. Dále se zabývám klasifikací, tématy a prezentací třech dětský knih jihoamerických autorů, které později analyzuji. V praktické části se zabývám humorem a jeho typy. Později klasifikaci humoru aplikuji u jednotlivých úryvků třech dětských knih v samostatné analýze. Cílem analýzy je popsat účel humoru a určit, jaké řečnické figury jsou použity.
