Image of Mentality of the Inhabitans of Dalmatian Inland in Selected Works of Croatian Prose Writers of the 20th and the Beginning of 21st Century

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o způsobech zobrazení mentality obyvatel dalmatského vnitrozemí ve vybraných dílech tří chorvatských prozaiků, kteří žili a tvořili v průběhu 20. a na počátku 21. století. Konkrétně jsou analyzována a komparována následující tři díla – Na kamenju (1942) Vjekoslava Kaleba, Duše robova (1984) Ivana Aralici a Što je muškarac bez brkova (2000) Anteho Tomiće. Text se zabývá rozdílnými přístupy jednotlivých autorů k dané tématice a zkoumá jejich postoje a pohledy na toto kulturně specifické území Chorvatska a jeho obyvatele. Zároveň pojmenovává povahové rysy, které se u postav ve studovaných dílech vyskytují opakovaně a které jsou naopak pro rozebíraná díla rozdílná. Práce odpovídá na otázku, jak se liší obraz mentality obyvatel dalmatského Záhoří ve třech reprezentativních prózách tří autorů, kteří tvořili v různých časových úsecích zkoumaného období, přičemž pojmenovává faktory určující vzájemné shody a rozdíly mezi obrazem dalmatského vnitrozemí předestíraném v jednotlivých rozebíraných dílech, potažmo v chorvatské próze 20. a počátku 21. století. Cílem práce je tedy porovnání jednotlivých obrazů mentality obyvatel dalmatského vnitrozemí z tří různých pohledů, přičemž je přihlíženo i na obraz dalmatského Záhoří v chorvatské próze 20. století jako takové.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the ways of depicting the mentality of the Dalmatian inland population in three chosen books of Croatian novelists, who lived and worked during the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century as well. Specifically, the thesis analysis and compares these three following writings – Na kamenju (1942) by Vjekoslav Kaleb, Duše robova (1984) by Ivan Aralica and Što je muškarac bez brkova (2000) by Ante Tomić. The diploma thesis focuses on the difference between the above mentioned writers´ works towards the topic and examines their attitudes and views of this culturally specific region of Croatian and its inhabitants. The thesis also identifies the character traits which occur repeatedly in the above mentioned works, but on the other hand it also defines those which are different from the others. The work itself answers the question, how the picture of the mentality of the Dalmatian inland population differs in the view of the works of the three named authors emphasizing the time they lived in, meaning the time during the 20th century and early 21st century. The aim of this diploma thesis is therefore to make a comparison of the three different perspectives including the image of Dalmatian inland in the Croatian prose of the 20th century.
